It will start flying twice daily to Brisbane from October next year using the Airbus A340-500. Melbourne will go triple daily in February 2009 and Sydney likewise but later in that year. These three additional flights will all be non-stop from Dubai.
The carrier is also launching Airbus A380 direct services in the first quarter of 2009 with a direct service to Sydney from Dubai. The A380 service to Melbourne will come online as more aircraft are delivered from Airbus, it said.
From July 2008, Emirates’ existing daily service to Brisbane via Singapore will be served by the new Boeing 777-300ERs.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, of Emirates said the A380 service would use the ultra-long range version in a 489 seat, three-class configuration,” ideally suited for Australian flights and will address the current seat capacity shortage at many Australian airports”.
