Emirates has launched a new service connecting Dubai with the Copenhagen. The daily direct flights commenced on Monday, when flight EK151 took off from Dubai. On board the inaugural flight were dignitaries including Richard Vaughan, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations Worldwide, Salem Obaidalla, the airline’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Europe & Russian Federation, and Jens Lund, Chairman of the Danish Business Council in Dubai, as well as members of the media.
“Copenhagen brings a new and exciting dimension to the Emirates’ network,” said Vaughan. “Emirates’ passengers from Scandinavia no longer need to travel to Germany to join our flights. They can travel directly from the Danish capital all the way to the Far East and Australasia, via our ultra-modern hub in Dubai.”
The Dubai-Copenhagen route, which becomes the airline’s 114th destination, will be served by an Airbus A330-200 in a three-class configuration.
Monday’s arrival was greeted in Copenhagen by the traditional water cannon salute, followed by a welcome reception inside the terminal attended by Sheikha Najla al Qassimi, the UAE’s Ambassador to Sweden, Per Tangsgaard Jensen, Danish Consul General to Dubai and other guests.
“The route is great news for the many Danish and Scandinavian businesses that are operating in the growth markets of Southeast Asia, India, and Australia. It will also help attracting both business travellers and tourists to Denmark,” said Carsten Noerlund, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Copenhagen Airports.
So far in 2011, Emirates has launched new passenger routes to Basra and Geneva. Services to St Petersburg will be launched on 1 November, followed by Baghdad on 13 November.
