Emirates Airlines has announced it has removed its fuel surcharge on airline tickets following a decrease in fuel prices. Although several airlines have increased or reintroduced fuel charges recently, the price of crude oil dropped by 17% to US$99.80 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. “In line with the recent decrease in fuel prices Emirates has removed its fuel surcharge on all tickets,” Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airline said in a statement released today. “We promised our customers from the outset that we would eliminate the surcharge as soon as it was commercially viable and this has now been done. We continue to closely monitor the situation.”
