Malaysia is developing Southeast Asia’s first Ernie Els-branded golf clubs.
Destination Resorts & Hotels (DRH) has announced plans to launch the Els Clubs Malaysia, with three championship course expected to open across the country between 2014 and 2016.
Created by South Africa’s four-time Major winner, Ernie Els, all three clubs will be located on Peninsular Malaysia. The first to open in February 2014 will be the Els Teluk Datai Course, an 18-hole course located on the resort island of Langkawi.
This will be followed by another two courses on the Desaru coast, in the southern state of Johor. Els Coast Course will be a 27-hole course designed by Els himself, while the Els Valley Course will feature 18 holes designed by Fiji’s former world number one golfer, Vijay Singh.
In addition to the golf courses, the Desaru coast development will include a series of Els Residences – luxury villas overlooking the greens.
The new clubs will also feature luxury clubhouse facilities, with upscale restaurants including Els’ own-brand Big Easy Wine Bar & Grill.
“We are determined to ensure golfers will enjoy premier service and world-class playing conditions here at the Els Club Malaysia. It is more than just golf; the Els Club is an ideal place for the whole family to relax and unwind while enjoying world-class golf club facilities and impeccable personalised service,” said Darrell Metzger, director of DRH.
The new golf clubs will add to the existing Els Club Copperleaf South Africa and The Els Club Dubai.
