The airline said it will redeploy its aircraft to new destinations, but offer customers flights to Colombo through Sri Lanka’s national flag carrier Sri Lankan Airlines.
“Etihad continually monitors the commercial performance of its global flight network and has taken this decision following extensive market analysis,” Geert W. Bovene, executive vice president sales and services for the carrier, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the carrier is launching a four flights-a-week service from its Abu Dhabi home base to the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, in October.
Etihad said the flights will provide a valuable link for the 90,000 Nepalese nationals living in the UAE and the growing demand from leisure travellers heading to Nepal from Europe and North America.
Etihad will operate a two cabin Airbus A330-200 between Abu Dhabi and Kathmandu configured to carry 262 passengers, with 22 in business class and 240 in economy.
