Etihad Airways will accommodate nearly 60% more passengers from Manchester Airport following the introduction of a Boeing 777 aircraft on the route. The new aircraft has 28 Pearl Business class and 384 Coral Economy class seats and replaces the Airbus A330 that was previously used on the Manchester-Abu Dhabi service. As a result of the increased capacity there will be more than 2,100 seats available each week this summer. “The decision to offer a significant capacity increase during the summer months comes from a heightened demand for leisure travel, while our growing commitment to Manchester and the North West continues to boost business traffic,” explained Etihad Chief Commercial Officer Peter Baumgartner. Furthermore, the airline will open a dedicated Etihad Airways premium lounge in Manchester Airport later this year - the third outside of Abu Dhabi. “After a difficult period this year with the volcanic ash cloud, it’s great to have Etihad show its commitment to Manchester,” added Manchester Airport Managing Director Andrew Cornish. Etihad’s service to Manchester was launched in 2006 and reaches beyond the city thanks to a codeshare agreements with bmi and Flybe. This connects the airline to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Isle of Man, Southampton and Inverness.
