ETOA announced it is to launch a survey next month about Schengen and UK visas for tourists visiting Europe. It follows concerns about the uneven nature of the handling of visa requests depending on the country of origin and the destination in Europe. “One of ETOA’s driving principles is to ensure that Europe remains competitive and attractive as a tourism destination,” ETOA Head of Tour Operator Relations Nick Greenfield told Travel Daily. “This cause is not helped if visa applications are overly complicated, processing is inefficient or costs are too high, as visitors ultimately stay away and operators feel the effect on their business. The Schengen visa scheme should have simplified matters but obstacles and inconsistencies remain”. The survey will be run by Consumerdata during June and can be completed by any organisation affected.results will be presented at an event in October held in Brussels. “Our survey will provide a more comprehensive picture and ultimately should help government at a national and European level make sure that Europe remains open for tourism”.
