Thousands of UK holidaymakers could face travel chaos this summer as air traffic controllers across Europe threaten to strike. Industrial action is expected to begin in Spain during the third week of August, which is expected to affect 300,000 Britons. There is also a threat of strikes from France and Greece. A spokesperson from easyJet told Travel Daily the airline would have contingency plans in place if strike action occurs. “We haven’t yet had formal notification of a Spanish ATC strike so it is too early to say what our plans will be,” she said. The move will have a significant effect on tourism and the economy in the popular holiday destinations, which have already been hit by the recession and weak value of the pound against the euro.
