Bangkok, Thailand (26 January 2010) - Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, is celebrating its 1000th birthday in 2010. To commemorate this milestone, Exotissimo Vietnam has recently launched an innovative collection of excursions to spotlight the rich history of this ancient city.
Exotissimo has teamed up with a renowned professor of Vietnamese history, Mr. Douglas Jardine, to create several half-day excursions in the capital. Each tour is focused on a certain aspect of local culture or a particular period of Hanoi’s history, including the French colonial era, the Communist uprising or the ancient Chinese-influenced architecture. Travelers can choose to be led by Mr. Jardine himself or opt for a local university student who has received special guide training for these tours.
“We are looking forward to bring Hanoi’s thousand years of history alive with these special heritage tours, said Maeve Nolan, Product Manager of Exotissimo Vietnam. “As a long-time resident of Hanoi and a foremost expert on Vietnamese history, Mr. Jardine is the perfect person to lead these tours. He combines his profound knowledge with vivid commentary to offer travelers unmatched insights into the dynamic history, culture and people of Hanoi.”
For a more immersive experience, Exotissimo has combined these excursions into a unique Celebrate 1000 Years of Hanoi program. The four-day tour covers the past millennium, from the mighty Ly Dynasty dating back to 1010 to present-day events, and shows how each era has shaped and influenced the city’s architecture and culture.
The tour highlights include a walking tour of Hanoi’s French colonial architecture, such as the Long Bien Bridge, the Opera House, the Chinese-influenced Van Mieu and Ngoc Son Temple. Another day focuses on recent Vietnamese history with visits to iconic sites affiliated with the August Revolution, including the hideouts of the Communist leaders and Hoa Lu Prison, followed by a tour of the ‘new’ Hanoi to explore recent architectural styles. There is ample leisure time for travelers to explore the city on their own or embark on other excursions in Hanoi and its surrounds.
These heritage excursions and tours are available throughout 2010. To view the detailed itinerary of Celebrate 1000 Years of Hanoi, visit:
