After American Airline’s (AA) recent attempts to drive sales through its own distribution channel Direct Connect instead of Travelport and Sabre global distribution systems (GDS), major online travel agents have collectively dumped the carrier from their portals. Following the Orbitz fiasco in which AA wanted to increase the cost of tickets brought through the online travel agent, Expedia and TravelAdvisor have decided not to sell AA tickets any longer. Expedia said in a press statement; “We have been unable to reach an agreement with American Airlines due to American Airlines’ new commercial strategy that we believe is anti-consumer and anti-choice.” The travel site has subsequerntly stopped selling tickets for AA flight but insist the situation is reparable and that the two parties can work together on terms that are satisfactory to Expedia.
