The Chinese Grand Prix is likely to continue in Shanghai beyond 2010, the South China Morning Post has reported. Recent statements from China’s sporting authorities had led to speculation that Shanghai may give up its slot on the F1 calendar, but a major Chinese events organiser, Juss Events, has said that the rumours were a “misunderstanding”.
“I’ve spoken to Mr Qiu (Weichang, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Sports Ministry), and he never said the Grand Prix was going to leave China,” Leon Sun, General Manager of Juss Events told Reuters in a telephone interview. “I think it’s probably some misunderstanding in translation,” he added.
