Some hotels are to be investigated by the Office of Fair Trading after it was claimed that they were fixing hotel rates. Website Skoosh.com Dorian Harris told the BBC that some hotels were threatening legal action after he brought rooms from wholesalers and sold them for low rates. If hotels have requested that prices are changed then they may face competition law charges because it would be price fixing. As a result, OFT could impose penalties of up to 10% of a company’s turnover. “The OFT is conducting a formal investigation into suspected breaches of competition law in the hotel online booking sector and has written to a number of parties in the industry to request information,” said an OFT spokesperson.
