Investigations into a fire at a budget hotel in China’s Jilin province have found that the blaze was started deliberately. A city government reportedly told the China Daily the fire, which killed 10 people at the Home Inns property in Tonghua, northeast China, was “the result of a criminal offence”. A police investigation is now underway and seven people have reportedly been taken in for questioning. The blaze is thought to have started on the first floor of the seven-storey hotel at around 3.30am on Sunday morning, trapping sleeping guests in the upstairs rooms.
