A new company has launched in the UK focused on health and fitness holidays.
Fitness Travel Company has been set up by Rob Tynan after he spotted a gap in the market for a niche operator that offers fitness holidays that are unique to the destination’s culture and experiences.
Tynan has launched the company after running test trips 15 months ago and is now offering small group departures throughout 2014 to destinations including Ecuador, Senegal and the Alps.
The trips are all accompanied by an ‘elite trainer’ who will run training sessions and activities throughout the holidays, as well as a local guide in the destination itself. The holidays are not just for the hardcore enthusiasts; those who get tired during a session or part of a journey can rest and jump on a support vehicle whenever they choose to.
“There is a fear of fitness and that should not be the case at all, so our holidays make sure everyone has the same experience whether they are into fitness or not,” Tynan told Travel Daily. “Our holidays are not a bootcamp but are a chance to be healthy with experiences that match the typography of the country we visit”.
Using his degree in sports science; time on cruise ships and experience at Virtuoso, Tynan’s launch has come as people look for more to do on their holidays. After the first trip early last year the company has arranged several more tours, including bespoke itineraries for families. Interest has been healthy so far, with the product expected to grow.
“People want more to do when they go on holiday now; it’s about educating themselves but also getting the most out of being in a country as well,” he explained. “Our trips are really geared to those who are well travelled and expect more from a trip.”
