Flight schedules rise in January 2009 - OAG

This month’s analysis of the OAG (Official Airline Guide) schedules database indicates that airlines worldwide will operate 2% more flights in January 2010 than in January 2009. The total number of scheduled flights operating this month is 2,370,027, with an overall seat offering of 294,636,429 - a year-on-year increase of 3%. Also this month, we are witnessing continuation of a positive growth trend for Middle Eastern region. The number of flights and seat capacity within Middle East is scheduled to rise by 24% and 28% respectively. Total flights scheduled to operate within the region are 43,940 and seat capacity offered is 6,734,422. Similarly, number of flights and seat capacity to/from Middle East also reflects an increase of 12% each with frequency of 48,034 and seat capacity of 10,397,649 in January 2010.The number of flights and offered seats To/From Asia Pacific reflects an increase of 6% and 5% respectively and traffic within Asia Pacific also shows an increase. Within Asia Pacific there will be 34,851 more flights and 5,527,150 more seats than in January 2009 resulting in an increase of 7% in flight operations and seat offerings.Both regions represent an improvement on the worldwide performance, which is pegged back by negative growth within Europe (-2%) and North America (-3%).
