Flynas has suspended long haul services following lower than expected profits.
The Saudi-based budget carrier issued a statement Tuesday saying: “flynas has suspended all long-haul flight services on its Global Flight Routes Programme, including all flights to London Gatwick.”
Chief executive Raja Azmi told Reuters: “We had some issues from a financial standpoint in terms of the profitability of some of the routes… We have taken a stand that we are suspending – not stopping – those routes for the moment and will relook at the whole situation again.”
The airline commenced long haul services from Jeddah to markets in Europe and Asia in April 2014 as part of its growth strategy. Management expected these services to spearhead 20% growth per year after seven years of straight losses, however performance on these routes was below expectations.
Passengers with long haul bookings will be refunded, or offered alternative travel arrangements to destinations including London, Manchester, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.
