Full house at Lao Ecotourism Forum

Lao National Tourism Administration, the eEvent organiser, said the turnout will be much better than expected. “We are full; In fact, we’re overflowing,” LNTA official Thaviphet Oula said, “We are very happy and proud of the high level of interest we have for this important event.”
Under the theme “Bridging the Mekong Region” the 26-29 July forum at the Don Chan Palace brings together ecotourism products and services in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).
Among the 35 pre-registered sellers and 40-plus buyers are tour operators, travel agents, accommodation providers, development agencies, government authorities and indigenous communities from throughout the GMS.
“This year’s forum will help bring Lao PDR and the GMS one step closer to becoming Asia’s top ecotourism destination,” Thaviphet said.
Along with the scheduled buyer-seller appointments and networking opportunities, the forum features a full slate of sessions on opening day. GRM’s Peter Semone leads off with “Marketing Mekong Ecotourism to the World” with Asian Development Bank economist Alfredo Perdiguero starting the afternoon’s schedule with a discussion on the role of ecotourism in GMS’ overall tourism strategy.
SNV’s Dr Paul Rogers will speak on the development and promotion of Lao’s flagship heritage destination, the “Hidden Cave City” in Viengxay, and Dr Sasithara Pichaichannarong, Thailand’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Sports will address “Mekong Ecotourism and the UN Millennium Goal of Sustainable Tourism Development”.
