Garuda to fly more Chinese

Garuda Indonesia has set a target to fly 22,000 passengers for the Beijing-Jakarta route this year, the airline’s Garuda General Manager for Beijing Pikri Ilham K has said.
“Amid tight competition with foreign airlines which also served the Beijing-Jakarta route, the number of Garuda`s passengers from Beijing continued to increase in 2007,” Pikri was quoted saying by Antara news agency.
Garuda, which operates three flights a week on the Beijing-Jakarta route, carried 21,650 passengers on the route. Its other China service are Shanghai-Jakarta and Guangzhou-Jakarta, with four flights a week.
Garuda served the Shanghai-Jakarta routes with 204 flights, 58,447 seats and 38,823 passengers in 2007. It also served the Guanghou-Jakarta route with 212 flights, 36,701 seats and 28,823 passengers.
The airline said in conjunction with Visit Indonesia Year 2008, Garuda Indonesia has prepared a number of programmes to attract more Chinese tourists to Indonesia.
