A mix of global economics and negative publicity is likely to see the number of British tourists travelling top Goa drop by 25% this year, The Times of India has reported. It is estimated that there will be approximately 120 fewer charter flights from Britain this coming season, according to UK charter carrier, Monarch.
The UK is the largest single market of tourism to Goa, with the 25% drop meaning around 25,000 fewer tourists in real terms.
A combination of fewer charter services, the global economic slowdown, and Goa’s declining reputation for safety following last year’s murder of UK teenager, Scarlett Keeling, are all expected to contribute to the decline.
