Two Michelin-starred master chef Alfonso Iaccarino is bringing his own distinct style of haute cuisine to Abu Dhabi.
Alfonso Iaccarino, who grows his own organic produce in his farm before serving it in his renowned south Italian Don Alfonso 1890 restaurant, will be appearing at the culinary festival Gourmet Abu Dhabi in 2010.
The festival, which runs from February 5 - 19 and takes in 14 venues along the way, will boast cuisine from a team of top chefs with 22 Michelin stars between them.
“Gourmet Abu Dhabi is a chance to engage with the Arabian culture and of course to learn a bit more about food,” says Iaccarino. “It is exciting for me as I am interested in opening a Don Alfonso 1890 in that part of the world.”
Alfonso hopes the festival will be an opportunity to convince diners that organic is synonymous with gourmet food. He is already preparing the menu that will be on offer in the Abu Dhabi Hilton’s BiCE restaurant during the event.
“It will focus on traditional recipes, made in a modern and healthy style, which is the main concept of Don Alfonso 1890 food philosophy,” he says.
“In our restaurant we have prepared dishes with our own farmed organic vegetables, fruits and extra virgin olive oil for more than 20 years. It is much more than a simple idea - it is a complete food chain.”
Gourmet Abu Dhabi, which is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), will also run workshops to share cookery tips during the event.
“The festival is influencing our own hospitality industry, the diners it serves and our community,” says Ahmed Hussein, Deputy Director General of ADTA.
“We hope it will help establish the UAE capital as the region’s culinary destination of choice and show how important healthy eating is for us.”
