14 Dec 09 (TravMedia.com): Great Southern Rail have today released the new ‘Australia’s Great Train Holidays’ brochure, with unique and varied holiday options to compliment adventures aboard the Indian Pacific and The Ghan.
Train travel is the best way to experience all that Australia has to offer - from the tropics of the Northern Territory to the arid Nullarbor Desert, all in comfort and style. The Ghan celebrated its 80th birthday this year and the Indian Pacific will mark is 40th anniversary in 2010 – now is the time to journey on these iconic trains.
‘Australian’s Great Train Holidays’ showcases new holiday package, touring and accommodation options with something to suit every traveler and budget.
The brochure is valid for travel from 1 April 2010 - 31 March 2011, with a new key inclusion being more ‘exclusive’ and eco-friendly accommodation options being offered.
On offer for the second year, is the secluded Southern Ocean Lodge set above a cliff on Kangaroo Island’s rugged Hanson Bay, claiming the title of Australia’s ‘first true luxury lodge’. Not only does the lodge boast breathtaking views and modern and contemporary design, it is one of Australia’s leading examples of sustainable tourism accommodation.
Bamurru Plains, located on the Mary River Flood plains to the west of Kakadu National Park, is also in its second year as part of the luxury accommodation on offer when travelling on The Ghan.
In the remote and beautiful wilderness of the area, Bamurru Plains is comprised of ‘wild bush luxury’ safari suites. With only nine suites available, guests are promised complete seclusion without encountering other tourists during their stay.
Several new tours have also been launched in Coober Pedy, ‘opal capital of the world’, being home to 70 per cent of the world’s opal mining.
After stepping off The Ghan, visitors to Coober Pedy can choose a half day tour to the ‘underground’ Desert Cave Town, a full day tour on the ‘Outback Mail Run’ which encompasses neighboring Oodnadatta and William Creek, or a longer four day tour of all that is on offer in the opal mining town and its surrounds.
Guests on the Indian Pacific are also able to discover a historic mining town - that of Broken Hill. There are now three additional tours to choose from: a half day tour of the ‘Silver City’ of Broken Hill, a half day tour of the Silverton Ghost Town almost 30 km from Broken Hill, or a three day tour allowing guests to fully discover the ‘capital of the outback’, as Broken Hill is often called.
There is no other experience quite like Australia’s great rail journeys and ‘Australian’s Great Train Holidays’ encompasses everything needed to plan the ultimate Australian rail holiday. More than simply a mode of transport, a train journey becomes an unforgettable holiday experience as guests experience some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery, make new friends and enjoy fine dining in the comfort of an iconic train.
