Thirty three museums and archaeological sites will extend their opening hours during the summer months, the Greek Culture Ministry has confirmed.
From 1 April until the end of October sites including the Acropolis in Athens and Ancient Olympia in the Peloponnese will be open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.
Tour operator Sunvil Holidays welcomed the announcement as 12 million of the 17.8m tourists that head to Greece each year visit a historical site.
“It is excellent news that the authorities have decided to extend museum and site opening times in spring and autumn, as well as during the peak summer season. Sightseeing is far more appealing when temperatures are lower and attractions less crowded, and the move will bolster our efforts to encourage shoulder season holidays,” said Dudley der Parthog, programme director at Sunvil.
