Guernsey is set to welcome a new visitor attraction – its own Petit Train – from the end of May.
The on road train service will tour sites in a 35 minute narrated circuit operating from the island’s capital, St Peter Port.
Although initially aimed at cruise liner passengers, the train is expected to appeal to all visitors of the island and is set to become a staple of the island’s character before long. The white and gold train has been shipped from France and will be conducted by stepmother and daughter pair, Julie Alderton and Laura Bean.
The Petit Train will operate a seasonal, non-stop, 35-minute circular route along the public roads from the Albert Pier with commentary designed to highlight key landmarks and introduce visitors to the many tourist attractions in and around town. It will carry up to 60 passengers in three carriages to provide an overview of the island’s sites but also an insight into the history and culture as well.
It is anticipated that 125,000 cruise liner passengers will come ashore this season.
Tickets will cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.
