Guernsey has been named ‘Best UK Port of Call’ in the Cruise Critic Editors’ Picks Awards.
Scooping the prize from Liverpool, which took out the 2014 award, Guernsey was selected for its “substantial on island developments to cater for cruise passengers and its rapidly increasing popularity as a port of call”, the judges said.
Guernsey’s cruise industry has seen strong growth in recent years, with a 74% increase in cruises over a four year period from 2012 to 2015. Whilst 62 liners tendered in the capital in 2012, an impressive 105 tendered in 2015.
On island, Guernsey has strategically developed and supported this growth by creating a newly re-sited arrivals area, installing free Wi-Fi and a welcome team for disembarking passengers and increasingly widening the range of on shore excursions.
The Cruise Critic Editors’ Picks Awards are chosen by Cruise Critic’s international team of editors, based on the destinations, lines and ships they feel best represent excellence in each of the designated categories.
