GuestLogix Reduces Airline Credit Card Fraud with New Contactless Payment Technology
Inflight sales transactions are now faster and more secure
GuestLogix is first to market with onboard POS handhelds that support MasterCard PayPass, VISA payWave, American Express ExpressPay and Discover Network Zip, and mobile phone payment
August 21, 2009 - Singapore - GuestLogix Inc., (TSX-V: GXI), the world’s leading provider of onboard retail solutions to the airline industry, today announced the availability of contactless payment technology with its market leading point-of-service (POS) handhelds, certified for use with MasterCard PayPass, VISA payWave, American Express ExpressPay, Discover Network Zip and existing Near Field Communications (NFC) programs residing on mobile phones.
The Company’s move with contactless and near field communications technology opens the door to more secure and much faster payments onboard. Flight attendants will be able to process sales in two-thirds less time versus traditional handling while airlines will be able to greatly reduce credit card related fraud.
The contactless devices will be unveiled at the upcoming GuestLogix User Group Conference on Sept. 22-24th, 2009 in Toronto, Canada.
“Our immediate support for third generation payment technology effectively changes the game plan for onboard retailing and merchandising,” said John Devins, Director, Asia Pacific at GuestLogix. “Carriers can now accomplish more sales in less time during flight without incurring additional risk. Contactless usage has become very popular in Asia Pacific retail markets like Singapore and Hong Kong. Now airlines in the region can easily capitalize on this payment trend in the air.”
Given that airlines have a very limited sales window, increasing transaction throughput is critical to increasing in-flight sales. GuestLogix estimates that enabling airline operators to become contactless merchants would result in a 73 per cent reduction in average processing time. This would result in a 272 per cent increase in onboard sales processing capacity.
GuestLogix offers two POS handhelds with contactless support. Its first generation OnBoard PowerSeller utilizes a new hardware add-on reader using an existing communications port. Its second generation PCI PED 2.0 compliant OnBoard PowerSeller 2 with PIN Pad incorporates the antenna and reader behind a touch screen. Both devices include very compact and light readers (less than 100 grams) that support all layers of the ISO 14443 Type A & B communications scheme.
The handheld POS devices work seamlessly with the GuestLogix onboard transaction platform which is also PCI-DSS certified and supports transaction clearing on a store-and-forward, or on a real-time basis where air to ground communications is available.
In related news, GuestLogix said it expects its first generation PowerSeller device also to be PCI PED 2.0 certified in January 2010.
