The Haryana State Government has reserved INR100 crore in public funds for the promotion of health tourism and related project in the state. Health tourism has in fact been given ‘industry’ status to raise its profile and incentivise investment. Meanwhile, the Industry and Investment Policy 2011 will actively seek out investment in the healthcare sector to facilitate infrastructure and service development and to raise standards. Speaking to the Financial Express, a Haryana State spokesperson highlighted the potential for medical tourism in the state and was hopeful that investment in the sector would see the establishment of hospitals offering primary, secondary and tertiary level healthcare facilities and allied services like pharmacies, diagnostics, pathological labs, training and skill development for para-medical services. But he didn’t stop there. The state also has ambitious plans to really push development in the sector and aims to oversee the development of specialist facilities in the areas of bio-medical waste management and research and development laboratories.
