Heathrow Airport has announced plans to consult local residents on their views into building a third runway at the site.
The airport’s chief executive Colin Matthews made the announcement at the Runways UK conference today, where executives from airlines and airports are hearing from Sir Howard Davies and others about expansion in the south east.
The consulation will start on 3 February and run for six weeks, asking 120,000 households and businesses how they feel about the proposed plans.
Results from the consultation will be used to form the airport’s proposal to the Airports Commission in May.
“we believe our proposal to expand Heathrow is the right way to deliver the capacity Britain needs to connect to fast growing economies around the world. This consultation is to make sure we correctly understand what local people value and that we can take their views into account as we refine our proposal,” said Matthews.
“We know that opinion is divided locally about whether a third runway should go ahead or not, but everyone has an interest in making sure that if a third runway does happen it is developed in the best way possible,” he added.
