The government last week launched a hi-tech monitoring system to help monitoring of the tiger population in the country. According to a Times of India report, the ‘M-Stripes’ system is a collaboration between the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the Zoological Society of London. It will use GPS-based technology to provide recording tiger sightings, wildlife crimes and ecological monitoring. The system will be implemented within two months at six tiger reserves - Jim Corbett in Uttarakhand, Ranthambhore in Rajasthan, Kanha in Madhya Pradesh, Bhadra in Karnataka, Anamalai in Tamil Nadu and Nagarjunasagar Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh.
