Colombo, Sri Lanka, 27 October 2009 – Hilton Colombo launched its newest Tea Bar (T-Bar) in collaboration with Dilmah Tea, offering tea lovers to indulge in the finest tea from estates in Sri Lanka and around the world.
Placing a contemporary take on Sri Lanka’s national beverage, tea, the T-Bar presents a wide selection of over 30 types of tea and infusions, including the light and eleganttasting Nuwara Eliya Pekoe, the rich and malty Dombagastalawa and the delicate Ceylon Silver Tips.
Hilton Colombo General Manager Jerome Auvity said: “The T-Bar concept originated because we wanted to introduce the tea-drinking tradition into today’s contemporary lifestyle. We want to promote the fact that tea can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere and in any form, be it hot, chilled, in tea and spirit combinations, and even in ice-cream teashakes.”
Located at the hotel’s Thorana Lounge, the T-Bar features original t-cocktails, t-mocktails as well as delicious handmade tea chocolates. A special T-Bar menu offers hot Gourmet and VSRT (Very Special Rare Teas) teas which range from ‘mild and gentle’, ‘light and bright’, ‘medium bodied to ‘dark and powerful’.
Designed with its stylish and contemporary theme, the T-Bar adopts a different atmosphere in the evening with a subtle transition of lighting and music. It will be presented as a Tea and Martini Bar with cool-blue lighting, serving a wide selection of cocktails. For example, Moroccan Mint Mojito, Vodka Vanilla Shot, Queen of Tea and Spirited Rosehip and Hibiscus, will be combined with a Dilmah t-Series tea or herbal infusion.
“The T-Bar is a natural choice for those seeking to host tea parties or to simply spend time with friends. Corporate events and private parties are extremely popular at the Thorana Lounge. We have already received bookings for ‘high society’ high teas,” Mr Auvity added.
It is believed that the tradition of afternoon tea was originated by Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, in England. She was apparently rather fond of having her butler deliver tea with sweet and savoury morsels and soon she began inviting her friends to join her. The world’s famous English tradition of afternoon high tea was then born. The T-bar has special theme events every Wednesday and Saturday, such as Easy Hairdo Demos and cookery demonstrations. A High Tea buffet is available in the afternoons.
