HK sees drop in arrivals this year

Quoting the Board,it said the economic situation, the recent introduction of direct flightsbetween Taiwan and China and further appreciation of the US dollar,to which Hong Kong’s currency is pegged, couldall dampen tourism this year.
The report saidHKTB expects to see 4.1% growth in visitors from mainland China, who account for more thanhalf of the territory’s visitors, but sees a 9.2% drop in visitors fromelsewhere.
Visitor arrivalslast year grew 4.7% from 2007 with visitors from mainland China, totalling 28.5 million,rising 8.9%. The report said the average stay of tourists was at 3.3 days buttourists’ overnight per capita spending rose 4.6% to HK$5,360 (US$687).
Earlier this weekHong Kong Airport Authority Chief Executive, Stanley Hui, forecast a 3% drop inpassenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airportthis year.
