HKTB Chairman James Tien said: “We support the 10 major infrastructure projects outlined in the Policy Address. In particular, the proposed transport infrastructure, such as the South Island Line and the Sha Tin to Central Link, will add to the city’s efficient public transport system, which is extremely popular with visitors, and enhance their overall experience of Hong Kong.”
The government also announced it would earmark additional sites for hotel development.
Another initiative that HKTB lauded is the proposed relaxation for employing foreigners. It said the “Quality Migrant Admission Scheme” will allow it to recruit not only Mainland but also international talents for the hotel, catering and travel sectors.
Another move announced by the government seeks to develop Hong Kong’s MICE sector, including setting up a cross-sector steering committee. HKTB said it plans to roll out a series of targeted promotions in overseas markets such as the UK and France later this month.
The Board noted the policy initiatives heritage conservation with moves to revitalise the Central Police Station Compound at Hollywood Road and preserve the Wan Chai open-air bazaar.
