Hong Kong’s government will pay HK$7.2 billion (US$927 million) for the construction of its new cruise terminal, the South China Morning Post has reported. The government decided to assume the cost of the project to avoid further delays, following previously unsuccessful bids from two developers.
The facility, to be built on the site of Hong Kong’s old Kai Tak Airport, is hoped to boost tourism to the tune of approximately HK$2.5 billion per year, as well as creating up to 9,000 jobs.
