But Ma added the Hong Konggovernment would not consider building casinos to compete with Macau. “The governmentdoesn’t think it would help the tourism industry if Hong Kong built one or twocasinos because Macau has many casinos like Las Vegas,” he was quoted saying. Hong Kong had proposed opening up to casinos several years ago but thegovernment said in late 2004 that it was not convinced of the benefit.
