Hoteliers in Jamshedpur are whacking up their prices ahead of the 34th National Games. After the National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) delayed the start of the Games, they have had to renegotiate terms of accommodation for sporting delegates. Having initially agreed room rates back in 2009, hoteliers are now demanding significantly higher rates. Speaking to TOI, Prabhakar Singh, President of the Jamshedpur Hoteliers’ Association said; “Room tariffs are likely to go up in the wake of price rises and inflation because we have to take all factors in account.” The NGOC is expecting to receive higher tariffs in the next round of negotiations as it issues fresh tenders for accommodation, but it is only prepared to accept marginal increases. However, given limited availability, press reports suggest that the rise could be as much as 35%.
