IATO to adopt Taj Mahal

The association will take responsibility for their daily maintenance andsanitation, Anil Mathur reports, adding that IATO have long been active inheritage and conservation.
In total, IATO will adopt twomonuments in Delhi- the famed Qutab Minar and the Humayun Tomb. In Agra, it will take responsibility for the TajMahal and the Agra Fort, both splendours of the Mughal architecture and visitedby millions. The Fathepuri Sikri, near Agra,is the fifth monument to be taken under the association’s wing.
Under a scheme launched by the Ministry ofCulture, the landmarks will be managed under Public Private Partnerships(PPPs). In a meeting on 4 April, IATO President, Vijay Thakur, told IATOmembers that the work of such maintenance is likely to be outsourced to acompany with a proven track record in improving sanitary and hygieneconditions.
For its part, all IATO members will offer one-day complimentary tours to theattractions, as part of the Visit India Year 2009. Meanwhile IATO is setting upnew branches to promote rural tourism, domestic and outbound travel as well asto look at the growing adventure travel market.
