There was only one story dominating the travel press this weekend - the evil cloud of volcanic ash that was spreading across Europe from Iceland, leading to the cancellation of thousands of flights. A cloud of black ash containing rock, glass and sand, thousands of kilometres across and 8.5km high, and nobody saw it coming. The dastardly cloud has caused chaos not only to the aviation industry, but to a whole host of other disruptions. The Manchester City-Manchester United game for example, had to change its referee at the last minute as the man scheduled to officiate the game was stranded in Romania. Man City were none too pleased - the replacement ref was the same man who they felt lost them the previous match against their rivals.
