Incheon airport expands
By late June, Incheon International Airport would have a new concourse with 30 gates as part of an expansion plan which also includes a runway and a cargo terminal.
Korea Times said foreign airlines have begun moving to the new concourse, about 900 metres away from the terminal and would finish the move by June 10.
It added that the two national flag carriers, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, would use gates at the eastern and western parts of the current terminal, which has 44 gates.
The paper added that the concourse was only for departures and arrivals, so passengers on foreign carriers would still need to check-in, send their baggage and go through immigration at the current terminal. An automated train would link the terminal and the concourse, the paper said.
The size of the concourse is about a third of the main terminal. It has duty free shops, restaurants, passenger facilities and a Korean culture museum.
Three gates of the concourse can handle A380 which Korean Air plans to operate from 2010.
With the new facilities, the airport would be able to handle 44 million passengers per year, up from the current 30 million, the report said.
