Concerns over how the Indian airports can sustain the tourism and air traffic growth are clearly evident from industry reports.
According to The Hindu, the current congestion at a few of the major airports and terminal buildings during peak hours are already struggling with the current passenger and aircraft traffic, and leaves little to doubt if the problem can be arrested soon.
Adding to the pressure is Air India’s record ordering of 68 new planes which will mean urgent improvement at the airports for parking, maintenance, handling and other services.
Unless the massive plans to redevelop the New Delhi and Mumbai airports, complete the greeenfield airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore, expand and modernise the Kolkata and Chennai airports, aside from speeding the modernisation and expansion of 35 non-metro airports is expedited, the whole development is set to be delayed.
