The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) is seeking an exemption of visa fees for tourists coming to India, Anil Mathur reports. The move comes in light of the present economic situation.
It also wants an aggressive marketing campaign and financial assistance for agents’ marketing activities. Hotel rates should also be reduced, according to the association.
The range of proposals was tabled when an IATO delegation, led by President Vijay Thakur, met the new Indian Secretary for Tourism, Sujit Banerjee. In his first interaction with the tourism associations, Banerjee emphasised the need to lower tariffs, citing evidence that in the past, India’s high hotel rates have driven away leisure group and FIT traffic.
