India has recommended that the two Jantar Mantars, or observatories, in Jaipur and Delhi be declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Anil Mathur reports.
The 16th century creations, built by the rulers of Jaipur, are scientific wonders, with sun dials and other astrological gadgets, carved out of stone.
In the natural category, the Western Ghats - a mountain range running along India’s west coast, have also been put forward for listing.
