Geneva’s tourism Authority hopes to attract 5,000 Indian tourists during its August Festival after it named India the guest of honour. “This year, thanks to the festival, we hope to attract 30% more Indian tourists to Geneva. Last year there were some 45,000 bed-nights generated out of the Indian tourists visiting our city,” Philippe Vignon, Director of Geneva Tourism, told IANS. Vignon was in Delhi to sign a memorandum of understanding between his agency and the Indian government’s tourism ministry for hosting India as the guest of honour at the Geneva festival and other activities. According to him, around 5,000-strong Indian delegates and tourists are expected to attend the lakeside festival this year.
