India plans new airports

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced that new greenfield airports are to be constructed at Pakyong in Sikkim, and Shimoga, Gulbarga, Bijapur and Hassan in Karnataka. According to a CAPA report, the new hubs will be developed in the next two years. Meanwhile new airports at Navi Mumbai & Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, Mopa in Goa, Kannur in Kerala, Durgapur in West Bengal, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh (cargo airport) have approved “in principle”, the report added.
