India has warned that its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sundarbans National Park is in danger of further tidal damage, following the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Aila earlier this year. According to a Times of India report, the water level in the Sundarbans will rise by as much as 6.5 metres during the tidal bore known as the sarasarir baan. India’s Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, has reported allocated INR10 billion (US$205 million) for repairs to embankments, 450km of which were destroyed in the cyclone.
