Airports in India continue to experience some of Asia’s highest growth rates, in terms of passenger traffic.
According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), total airport traffic in Asia increased 9% in June 2016. But the strongest growth was reported at some of India’s key airports, including Bengaluru (+21.6%), Delhi (+21.5%) and Hyderabad (+19.3%).
Several Chinese airports also saw strong growth, including Hangzhou (+13%), Kunming (+10.7%) and Shanghai Pudong (+10.5%).
Asia’s two busiest airports, Beijing (+3.5%) and Tokyo Haneda (+5.9%) both handled more passengers than in June 2015, while notable growth was also experienced in Manila (+9.4%) and Osaka Kansai (+12.1%).
South Korean airports showed strong gains, but this was mainly recovering from the lows experienced last summer, when the country was impacted by the MERS outbreak. At the country’s main gateway, Incheon Airport, international traffic surged 34.3% in June while domestic numbers jumped 41.9%.
