The number of Indian visitors who came to Nepal through land routes increased to 520,522 in 2010 as compared to 298,821 in the previous year, an increase of 74% from 2009. The figures, revealed by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), indicated that a total of 674,608 tourists came to Nepal on overland routes from India in 2010, with a total of 154,086 third-country tourists entering Nepal by land. The survey was based on Indians coming to Nepal for holiday travel in Indian-registered vehicles like buses, mini buses, cars, jeeps and motorcycles. It analysed the Indian vehicle registration log maintained by the Customs Department at border checkpoints and manually-derived data of Indian vehicles entering Nepal. The highest number of Indian tourists entered Nepal from the Belahiya point (Bhairahawa). Of the total arrivals, 50% (337,842) entered the country through this point.
