Once lauded as a landmark scheme for tiger conservation in India, the relocation of tigers to the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan has stalled. According to a Times of India report, concerns have been raised about the inbreeding of tigers in Sariska, and an investigation has been launched. The relocation plan has been halted until the findings are released. The project was a joint bid by the government, the National Tiger Conservation Authority, and the Wildlife Trust of India to re-establish tigers in Sariska after the native population had been hunted to extinction.
