International tourist arrivals to Indonesia experienced double-digit growth in the first two months of the year.
According to the latest data released by the Indonesia’s minister of tourism & creative economy, Mari Elka Pangestu, and reported by Antara, combined international visitor arrivals to the country in January and February 2014 reached 1.46 million. This marked a 12.6% increase compared to the 1.29m welcomed in the same period last year.
And minister Pangestu described the performance was “quite good”.
“It is hoped that it will rise further in the coming months so that we can achieve – or even possibly exceed – our target of between 9.3m and 9.4m foreign tourist arrivals for the year,” she was quoted saying by Antara.
Divided by month, Indonesia welcomed 753,100 arrivals in January and 702,700 visitors in February. This was achieved despite the temporary closure of several major airports in Java following the eruption of Mount Kelud.
Indonesia achieved a record 8.7m international arrivals in 2013.
