Iraqi marshlands may get UNESCO protection

Iraq’s marshlands, formed where the Tigris and Euphrates rivers meet may join the UNESCO World Heritage list, Bloomberg have reported. The marshlands were devastated during Saddam Hussien’s regime, after the former dictatorship drained much of the area. The region is home to water buffalo and several species of wading bird.
