JAL reports high summer loads

Japan Airlines (JAL) has reported international load factors in excess of 90% for the recent summer vacation period. The airline’s international passenger traffic actually sunk 22.5% year-on-year during the 12-21 August 2011 period, as a result of a major reduction in capacity. Load factors remained high however, reaching 90.8%. The best performing routes were those to Hawaii (94.5%), South Korea (94.5%) and Southeast Asia (91.8%). On domestic routes, JAL experienced average load factors of 82.1% for the period, as a 10.9% drop in passenger traffic was more than offset by an 18.8% capacity reduction.
