Japan’s Meteorological Agency has apologised after issuing a major tsunami alert following the Chile earthquake. According to a Channel NewsAsia report, the agency’s official in charge of earthquakes and tsunamis, Yasuo Sekita, admitted to a news conference that forecasts were “a bit too big”. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from Japan’s coastal regions, but when the waves arrived they rarely exceeded a metre in height, the report said.
